This policy explains how Franklin Consulting Ltd ("we", "us") handles personal information in connection with the website ownyourhome.co.nz. It is written to meet our obligations under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the information privacy principles.
The calculator collects nothing
Everything you enter into the affordability calculator (incomes, names you type into the household rows, costs, savings, house value and loan details) is processed entirely inside your own web browser. There is no account, no login, and no server that receives your figures. We never see them.
To stop your work vanishing if you reload the page, your inputs are kept in your browser's session storage, a temporary store that belongs to that browser tab. It is cleared when you close the tab, and pressing "reset" clears it immediately. If you use the "download XLSX" button, the spreadsheet is generated in your browser and saved directly to your device; it is not uploaded anywhere.
What we do collect
- Email correspondence. If you email contact@ownyourhome.co.nz we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it to reply and to fix problems you report. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not sell or share it.
- Standard server logs. Our hosting provider records ordinary technical request data such as IP address, timestamp, page requested and browser user agent, for security, abuse prevention and uptime monitoring. This is a normal function of web hosting and we do not use it to identify individuals.
Advertising and cookies
This site displays advertising supplied by Google AdSense. To do that it loads Google's advertising script, and Google and its partners may read and set cookies or similar identifiers on your device.

- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices.

We do not have access to, and do not control, the cookies set by these third parties. Blocking cookies in your browser will not stop the calculator from working, because it does not rely on them.
Other third-party services
To keep the site fast and free we load a small number of resources from other providers. Requesting a file from any external provider necessarily reveals your IP address and browser details to that provider.
- Google Fonts
- Serves the Inter typeface used across the site. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
- SheetJS CDN (cdn.sheetjs.com)
- Supplies the spreadsheet library used by the "download XLSX" button. It runs in your browser; your figures are not sent to SheetJS.
- Our hosting provider
- Serves the pages and keeps the technical request logs described above.
Children
This site is intended for adults considering a home purchase. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security and retention
Because the calculator stores nothing on our systems, there is no database of user financial information to breach. Email correspondence is retained only as long as needed to deal with the matter it concerns, and is held in a mailbox protected by access controls.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to request access to it, and to request correction of it. In practice the only information we are likely to hold is email correspondence you have sent us. Requests go to contact@ownyourhome.co.nz and we will respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
If we change how information is handled we will update this page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be summarised at the top of the page.
